About the Opportunity

Six Degrees Recruitment is pleased to present a part‑time opportunity for a Part‑Qualified or Qualified Accountant to join a well‑established organisation in North Cumbria.

This role blends core financial accounting with a key project to prepare the business for the implementation of a new finance system. Working closely with an experienced Head of Finance, the wider finance team and IT colleagues, you will play a central role in ensuring a smooth transition to the new system while identifying opportunities to strengthen processes, reporting and operational efficiency.

This position suits an experienced finance professional who enjoys working with systems, improving processes and translating financial requirements into practical, workable solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the business in preparing for the implementation of a new financial accounting system
  • Build a detailed understanding of existing accounting processes, financial data flows and reporting requirements
  • Work collaboratively with finance and IT teams to translate accounting needs into effective system functionality
  • Assist with data migration, reconciliation and system testing to ensure accuracy and integrity
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, reporting capability and overall efficiency
  • Support group financial reporting and wider financial accounting activities
  • Assist in preparing user manuals, process documentation and guidance for the new system
  • Provide training and support to colleagues to ensure confident adoption of the new system
  • Troubleshoot system and process issues, working with relevant stakeholders to deliver effective solutions

About You

You will be an experienced finance professional with strong accounting knowledge and a genuine interest in systems, data and continuous improvement.

Ideally, you will bring:

  • Part‑qualified or fully qualified accountancy status
  • Experience in a financial accounting role, with exposure to financial systems and process improvement
  • Experience or involvement in group financial reporting
  • Strong analytical skills and confidence working with financial data
  • Good Excel and IT capability, with the ability to understand and work with complex information
  • A methodical, organised approach and strong attention to detail
  • The ability to work collaboratively with finance, IT and wider business teams
  • A proactive mindset and interest in improving processes and making systems work effectively
  • Previous involvement in a finance system implementation (advantageous but not essential)

Working Hours and Flexibility

This is a part‑time role offering approximately 15–25 hours per week, with significant flexibility around how those hours are worked.

The client is open to different working patterns, with hours that can be spread across several days to suit individual circumstances. Working hours can be arranged flexibly within an approximate 8:00 am–6:00 pm window, offering an excellent opportunity to balance a rewarding finance role with other commitments.

Why Apply?

This is a chance to make a meaningful contribution to a major finance systems project within an established organisation. You’ll work alongside an experienced finance leader, influence how future processes and reporting are shaped, and play a key role in strengthening the financial infrastructure of the business.

If you are an experienced finance professional who enjoys combining accounting with systems, data and continuous improvement, we would welcome a conversation.
