The Marketing & Communication department operates across a group of businesses, offering a significant and varied role for the right candidate. There is scope to progress to Director of Marketing within the foreseeable future, so would offer an excellent opportunity to forge a senior career path with our client.

The Role of Deputy Director of Marketing & Communications

The purpose of the role is to provide strategic input to the business, helping to achieve corporate objectives by identifying the best marketing and communications options. As a Deputy Director of the marketing department, you will be expected to identify new opportunities and have the ability to scope them, pitch them and deliver them.

The role holder will need to operate across the full spectrum of group companies, being seen as a strong contributor on any project, taking the lead on initiatives and providing support and a second opinion to the team. As a small team, we are looking for a strategic individual who is equally happy to deliver and be able to handle the detail.
You will be the go-to individual for marketing and communication requirements, and as such, will need to work closely with a wide variety of stakeholders and products, identifying the best plan of action to support their individual objectives.

Key Duties
• Set the department strategy and objectives
• Oversee the marketing planning process for the group
• Oversee PR activity to ensure opportunities for the Group of companies are maximised
• Definition and management of the association communications strategy
• Ensure that all marketing planning/execution includes:
o Integrated marketing across traditional and digital media
o Campaign development, delivery and monitoring
o Brand strategy
o Social media oversight
o Delivery of activities across the full marketing mix including:
• Creative brief development
• Copywriting
• Website content management,
• On and offline promotional activity etc.
• Leading marketing projects and delivering the marketing workstream in company-wide projects as required
• Budget control – take full accountability for all group marketing budgets, providing monthly budget status and forecasts
• Lead a team focussing on achievement of specific objectives, personal development and progression opportunities.
• Accountable for maintaining and developing a network of key stakeholders (internal, media and industry)
Qualification, Knowledge & Experience
• Experience of operating strategically, putting plans in place and taking projects from idea to end result
• Track record of working in a B2B environment
• Experiencing of managing a team, developing them and prioritising workload for them as well as self
• Demonstrated ability to make decisions in a timely fashion which lead to the right business outcomes
• Track record of delivering results
• Commercial experience in terms of managing budgets, negotiating budgets, identifying new revenue streams
• Proven experience of brand building, brand management and creating branding strategies
• Demonstrated experience of developing and executing marketing strategies which achieve marketing and campaign objectives
• Track record of delivering projects and campaigns across the full marketing mix
• Experienced at managing multiple priorities (ideally brands or products) at once
• Track record of managing internal stakeholders e.g. product owners and external service providers e.g. agencies
• Have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and should enjoy and be skilled at copywriting
• Operated at a senior level previously


• Experience of working in a business with a group operating structure
• Knowledge and experience of using Mailchimp
• Knowledge and experience of using Umbraco
• Experience of managing social media accounts for businesses
• Experience of generating video content and podcasts
• Experience in the Construction sector would be an advantage

In addition to standard marketing skills such as marketing planning, design, copywriting, content management, agency management and campaign delivery, there are a number of specific softer skills that are required for this role:

• Ability to challenge and say no when an activity or a request would be detrimental to over-arching plans, recommending alternative solutions

• Lateral thinker who can spot links between different projects and companies to ensure a consistent and stronger message
• Demonstrated ability to prioritise work for self and a team
• Able to forecast activity requirements based on loose project briefs
