Interim Procurement Manager (Maternity Cover)

Six Degrees are delighted to be working with a long standing client who are looking for an interim Procurement Manager for a maternity cover.

Principle Accountabilities

1. Excellent supplier relationships and auditing
2. Communication with kitchen and cleaning teams regarding products
3. Delivering savings both independently and part of wider projects
4. Delivering innovation through new products and supplier support
5. Exercising control over product ordering and usage
6. Reporting

Supplier Relationships

Establish procurement arrangements with all key suppliers and put in place Service Level Agreements with agreed KPI’s
Agree pricing structures , KPI’s and rebate terms
Liaise with the operations and finance teams to ensure that only authorised products are purchased and used
Monitor product spends and focus effort to deliver maximum benefit
Liaise with the Health and Safety team in undertaking supplier audits
Ensure that our suppliers meet our standards and that we know the provenance and safety products we use.
Develop and manage procurement programmes to ensure we always get best value from our supplier base including for example the introduction of new products, trials and quality along with best price.


Develop strong relationships with the area management team, Team Leaders and users of the products and services and ensure that the products are used the correctly and in turn their feedback is used to inform our purchasing decisions.
Develop a replacement for the News’ bulletin issued to inform staff of product changes and developments.
Make this part of a broader communication plan to keep the area and site management teams up to date with procurement activity in all respects.


Initially, given the lack of focus there has been to date on product costs, reducing our expenditure in this area is the priority.
Target initial 5% savings on our clients costs via improved procurement in addition to savings from the work elsewhere.
Log all savings secured, no matter how small, along with other qualitative benefits and use to provide a monthly activity report to the Director and Operations Director.
There is an on-going need to collaborate with others on formal projects or on an informal basis. This will initially encompass the cost project and the heavy equipment maintenance arrangement the projects and work will be both directed and self started.


The role offers most scope for innovation, supplier support and creativity.
Innovation is not just confined to the products we use but also to our approach to procurement and finding the best ways for our client to secure the value across the business.
Work with suppliers and internal groups on extending the range of accreditations held by our client associated with our business activity.

Systems and controls

It is important that actual spend is very closely monitored and analysed.
This should be used to ensure that only authorised products are being ordered.
It should also be used to quantify the savings made from procurement activity and identify the key areas to focus effort on.
To work with the finance and IT teams to develop the efficiency of our processes and maximise the use from tablets and site connectivity.
Develop a forward plan of action to guide our efforts to improve control, data visibility and processing efficiency.
Agree and manage the regular flow of procurement information and KPI data from suppliers.


Develop a set of reports to be delivered to various recipients around the business that will track our procurement activity and highlight the benefits from it.
Maintain a log of all work done and benefits secured both financial and non-financial.
Attend and provide update to Board meetings periodically as required.
